Carol Trummert

Carol, a native of South Florida, has devoted over 30 years to the field of Physical Therapy, now proudly serving the Boca Raton community. Her career began in 1994 at Miami-Dade College, and since then, she has accumulated extensive experience in sports medicine, orthopedics, and spine care. Sports have always been a passion in Carol’s daily life.

As the Director of Physical Therapy at the Florida Back Institute, Carol is committed to providing exceptional care tailored to the unique needs of each patient. Her warm and friendly demeanor enhances her ability to connect with patients and deliver high-quality, compassionate care. Carol places particular emphasis on sport-specific training, ensuring that athletes receive the specialized care they need to excel in their respective sports.

Carol has a rich and diverse professional background in massage therapy, Pilates, and functional movement assessment. She is certified as a Massage Therapist from Educating Hands in Miami, FL., and as a Pilates Rehabilitation Specialist from Polestar Pilates, Coral Gables, in collaboration with the University of Miami. Additionally, Carol holds certifications from the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), including TPI certified and TPI Medical 2 certification. She is also certified in Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). Her expertise is further supported by certificates in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue mobilization and Kinesiology Taping from Rock Tape. These credentials highlight Carol’s extensive training and expertise in therapeutic bodywork, functional movement, and rehabilitative exercise.

Through her dedication and specialized training, Carol continues to make significant contributions to the well-being of her patients at the Florida Back Institute. Her extensive background and continuous dedication to her field exemplify her commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of the South Florida community she serves. Outside of her professional life, Carol enjoys playing golf/pickleball and being with family and friends.

Thomas Stephen

Dr. Thomas Stephen is a dedicated Doctor of Physical Therapy at the Florida Back Institute, known for his expertise in spinal rehabilitation and commitment to patient care. Born in India and raised in South Florida, Dr. Stephen brings a rich cultural background and a deep understanding of diverse patient needs to his practice.

Dr. Stephen graduated with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2020. Since then, he has continued to advance his skills and knowledge by obtaining certifications in Dry Needling and becoming a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified professional. These additional qualifications enhance his ability to provide specialized care, particularly for athletes and individuals with specific musculoskeletal needs.

Dr. Stephen excels in creating engaging and effective rehabilitation programs. His approach is characterized by a positive attitude and a focus on making therapy sessions enjoyable for his patients.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Stephen enjoys staying active through working out, golfing, and watching sports. His personal interests help him connect with patients on a more personal level, fostering a supportive and motivating environment for their recovery journey.

Nicole MacKenzie

Nicole is a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) with a passion for providing personalized care. With over 15 years of experience in orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, and sport-specific training, she excels in delivering high-quality therapy services.
Nicole earned her Associate of Science degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from Indian River State College (IRSC) in 2007 and further enhanced her skills with a Technical Certification in Manual Techniques in 2008. She holds several certifications, including Active Release Technique (ART), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, Fascia Movement Taping, Rock Tape, Pilates Reformer Certified, and Certified Health Coach. Specializing in outpatient orthopedics and sports rehabilitation, Nicole is particularly passionate about sports-specific training. She is proficient in treating a wide range of conditions and is skilled in various manual techniques. Nicole’s dedication to individualized care and ongoing learning makes her a valuable asset in the field of physical therapy.

Daniel Shogan

Daniel is a dedicated and compassionate healthcare professional with a robust background in spinal rehabilitation and exercise science. As a former United States Marine Corps Afghanistan veteran, Daniel brings a unique blend of discipline, resilience, and a positive attitude to his practice.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and an Associate in Science degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from Broward College. With over three years of hands-on experience in spinal rehabilitation, he has developed a keen expertise in helping patients recover and improve their quality of life.

Known for making therapy sessions enjoyable and engaging, Daniel leverages his strong educational foundation and military background to provide exceptional patient care. His approach is always centered around creating a supportive and fun environment, ensuring that patients are motivated and look forward to their sessions.

Helayne Ferreira

Helayne, a native of Brazil, brings over 10 years of customer service experience to her role. In 2023, she joined the Florida Back Institute’s Physical Therapy Department as the Appointment Coordinator. Helayne assists patients with their questions and concerns about physical therapy, helping them find convenient times to fit sessions into their busy schedules. Known for her warm, caring, and kind demeanor, she is always willing to help. Helayne loves working at Florida Back because of the genuine care everyone shows towards patients. Together, the team strives to provide quality and compassionate healthcare to all.
