Jeffrey C. Fernyhough, M.D.
Jeffrey C. Fernyhough, M.D. is an orthopedic spine surgeon with a particular expertise in osteoporotic compression fractures, spinal stenosis, and herniated disks. He has conducted research and has been published widely in medical journals since he received his M.D. degree from the University of Washington in 1982. Before graduation, he was an International College of Surgeons Scholar at the University of Oxford School of Medicine in Oxford, England. Dr. Fernyhough was also an instructor and chief resident in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation of the Yale University School of Medicine. His studies continued with two spinal surgery fellowships – one at the University of Maryland and one under Henry LaRocca, M.D., founding editor of Spine Journal. Dr. Fernyhough is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, as well as a member of the Cervical Spine Research Society, North American Spine Society, the International Spinal Injection Society, the Internation Intradiscal Therapy Society and the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

He specializes in both nonoperative and, primarily,  minimally invasive approaches to all spine surgery operations, when necessary, addressing spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, herniated disks and fractures. He has regionally pioneered the use of fluoroscopic-guided epidural steroid injection for nonoperative treatment of spinal stenosis, herniated disks, and sciatica over the past 23 years, and more recently and Kyphoplasty & Vertebroplasty procedures. Recently, technology has improved dramatically in the area of spinal cord stimulation for severe back pain and sciatica, even where surgery has failed. Dr. Fernyhough can perform trial stimulation for this procedure “in the office” in about half an hour, so patients can experience for themselves this drastic pain relief. It is also uniquely fully reversible.

Dr. Fernyhough has also published research in the areas of cervical spine fusions, lumbar spine fusions, and bone graft pain. He lectures nationally in minimally invasive surgical techniques and holds patents for vertebroplasty techniques and instruments for spinal fractures.
